FOX Networks Group Latin America Achieves an Unprecedented Ruling against Piracy in Uruguay

The group was supported by the Uruguayan justice, which ordered the blocking of all web pages from the illegal site Rojadirecta.

Montevideo, Uruguay, April 2nd, 2018, FOX Networks Group (FNG) Latin America announced today an unprecedented ruling against piracy. In an unprecedented resolution, the Uruguayan judiciary ruled a precautionary measure whereby Internet suppliers must block all websites called Rojadirecta, which are illegal sites broadcasting sports content.

FOX Sports Latin America – which is part of FNG group – holds the exclusive broadcasting rights for sports contents such as the Copa Conmebol Libertadores Bridgestone, Copa Conmebol Sudamericana, Serie A TIM, Formula 1, WWE, among others. FOX Sports had criminally reported the site for copyright infringement, this site illegally retransmits without authorization contents produced by the Group.

"This exemplary ruling represents the beginning of judicial awareness on online piracy issues. FNG Latin America constantly works in order to combat the illegal use of content on different stages. We're satisfied to have found in Uruguay an important ally in the fight against this scourge. We're on our way to ending the impunity of these illegal content relay sites," said Daniel Steinmetz, Chief Anti-Piracy Officer of FNG Latin America, and added:  "We have already presented actions in other countries in the region where we will seek to replicate what we have obtained in Uruguay."
